As I’m sure you know, every month we give away a great prize for our “Letter of the Month” in the magazine. If you haven’t gotten your mitts on the newest issue (September 08), then you haven’t read the winning letter, which is a shame because it’s good. Our winner, Tyler, wrote to us about riding his pretty much stock Z400 in a few local races in Canada. Lining up at the starting line can be intimidating, especially when everyone else is on 450s. Kudos Tyler! Congrats for getting out there and racing, and congrats for winning a set of Flexx Bars from FasstCo!
Here’s Tyler’s winning letter:
Don?t Believe the Hype
Last September I tried my first race on my pretty much stock white 2006 Suzuki Z400. My quad has a full Yoshimura pipe and open airbox. I raced on my hometown track called Gopher Dunes, which is the toughest sand track in Canada. When I pulled up to the line for practice, the racers who have been racing all season were talking a lot of smack to me. They said, ?I hope you expect to get last place.? The gate dropped for my first moto of the day, and my almost-bald stock tires spun all the way down to the holeshot to get me eighth out of the gate of the 15 racers. I ended up with fourth place, and I got sixth in the second moto, which gave me fifth overall. Did I mention that I was the only 400 on the track and the rest were souped-up 450s? I also was the youngest racer, with the least experience. This just goes to show that if you set your mind to something you can accomplish it. It felt good showing up racers on my 400 who?ve raced all season with 450s. I am hoping to race more this season. I have attached a few photos and it would be an honor to be in your magazine to show others that no matter what anybody says to you, don’t let it go to your head. I am very proud of what I have earned for one day of doing what I love the most?riding!
